Oxenfree is a fantastic game that centers around a group of 5 friends, the main of which being Alex, a blue-haired girl with whatever attitude the player decides.
This is another sort of pick your own adventure game, but the way the creators did it is interesting, though slightly annoying at times. Throughout the game the characters are chatting and talking and bonding or falling out depending on the dialogue options the players choose. The reason I mention it being annoying at times is because sometimes when the NPCs, Alex's friends(or enemies if you choose), are chatting at you or with each other the dialogue options will appear and you won't be able to finish hearing what they have to say before your options disappear or you choose what you want to say. This is reminiscent of the Tell Tale's technique with there being limited time frames on choices, but at least in The Walking Dead Game and Wolf Among Us the characters have already finished what they have to say. It sometimes made it problematic to choose what to say because I wasn't always sure if the choice I made was what I really wanted because I didn't finish hearing what they had to say.
In case you didn't get it, I played Oxenfree, a scifi thriller game made by Night School Studio. Oxenfree was released to PC and Xbox One on January 15th and is slated to be released on Playstation 4 at some point. Yeah, I don't know when and they don't know when, but it'll happen eventually, at some point, maybe. I played on Xbox One.

Even still, these options do have an impact on the ending of the game. Throughout, when you pick your replies it changes the relationships with the other characters - you can be friends, enemies, matchmaker, etc. I love this dynamic in games, but I wish there would have been an area to see where my relationship levels were (like in Until Dawn) because you have to just kind of wing it and hope for the best.
The supernatural elements were eerie and creepy and all around fantasic. I jumped a couple times and spent most of the game on the edge of my seat. Oxenfree does a great job of keeping the tension built and without missing a beat throwing what you've been waiting for at you.
For people who love collectibles, there are collectibles scattered throughout. My issue was I didn't realize what they were until I had missed like 3 of them leaving me without 100%. You do have the option to walk around between objectives, and they do give you a signal for the point of no return, but by the time I reached that point I wanted to see the ending.
I won't spoil anything, but the game has a great ending and is all in all something I would definitely play again,
I don't have a lot of complaints other than the fact that it crashed on several loading screens and had to be reloaded. Other than that it is wonderful and I highly recommend it, Also the art style? Amazing.
Overall I give Oxenfree an:
8.5/10
