Video games are everywhere - from the PC Gamers to Console players to Handheld and Mobile users.
I used to think of gamers as teenagers hunched over controllers, playing Call of Duty or WoW for hours on end without blinking. While these people exist, they are not the face of gaming I've come to realize. With how prominent technology is nowadays, "gamer" should be a title given to anyone that picks up a game and enjoys it. Games are not exclusive to a certain type anymore. Whether you're playing Candy Crush while waiting for a plane or biting into the newest raid released on Destiny, games all ultimately provide the same experience. It should be fun, exciting and entertaining.
I've learned a lot about gaming in the 5 short years that I've been playing "hardcore" and while I've really only become deeply involved in the "excessive playing" community recently, I've had gaming systems for a very, very long time. We had a Playstation 1, an NES and my uncle had an N64 (which has now been absorbed into my systems). To be honest, I don't think I've ever forgiven my mom for selling our PS1. I help manage a game store, I'm majoring in video game design, and I spent most of my time watching gaming feeds or playing games. If video games were liquid, I'd be drowning in them, happily, of course.
Along the lines of reminiscing about retro systems, it's interesting to think how far games have come just in the last 20 years, the last 10 even. That's not a very long time considering. I'm pretty young, but I've seen so much tech evolution and we see it so much that it's just a passing though. Every year is a new phone, every 10 is a new console, even though Nintendo started a little earlier than 10 years, and PC companies are constantly pumping out new stuff and then updating them constantly (thanks Microsoft for the 100 updates 24 hours after I just had 200 others).
Video games are beautiful, artistic, challenging, frustrating, relaxing, and so many other things, the list is really endless. To me, video games are pretty much everything I need and this is why I started this, to give insight into another gamer's mind who enjoys every aspect of gaming. There are millions of gamers out there, and I'm just another one that's speaking to anyone who will listen.
